Disney showed this second of it’s Tinker Bell direct-to-DVD series in a theater in L.A. for a week to make it elidgible for an Academy Award nomination. The studio knows it won’t get one, but be helping to make sure that there are at least 15 movies up for consideration, the studio will help get a full field of five nominees this year. And that might help “Dsiney’s A Christmas Carol and/or “The Princess and the Frog” make it into that group (“Up” is a lock to get a nomination).
As for “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure”, it’s a cute and fun film, perfect for at-home viewing. The story involves Tink having to go an journey after she accidentally destroys the moonstone needed to keep Pixie Hollow safe. She’s joined by her friend Terence and a firefuly named Blaze, and together they learn lessons and teach them to the viewers.
“The Lost Treasure” is definitely for young children, and they’ll enjoy the characters and the excitement that the adventure brings. But, anyone older than six or seven will be bored by the story.
The animation is surprisingly good for a direct-to-DVD film and the voices are strong. Mae Whitman voices Tinker Bell. Angelica Huston and Jesse McCartney highlight a solid cast.
On The Official Kid Critic Report Card, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure” gets a B. The Blu-ray edition includes a guided tour of Pixie Hollow, outtakes and a Demi Lovato music video.
If you’re looking for a stocking stuffer for the littlest of movie fans in the family, this is a great choice.
