Keanu Reeves is ready for one of the biggest summers of his career. He’s also gearing up to achieve a much-needed box office milestone. If “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” earns more than $100 million at the U.S. box office, it will be the first film to do so that Reeves has been in since 2003’s “Something’s Gotta Give”.
The first “John Wick”, which was released in October 2014, earned $43 million. That’s barely more than Reeves’ bomb “47 Ronin” the previous Christmas. But Lionsgate saw something in the critically acclaimed action film, which quickly built a fan following. Sequel “John Wick: Chapter Two” opened to $30 million in February 2017 and earned $92 million total.
“Parabellum” has a coveted summer weekend, where it could earn the top spot at the box office. Fans of this franchise and Reeves are likely looking forward to seeing Halle Berry and old “Matrix” co-star Laurence Fishburne join the cast.
But even if “Parabellum” falls short of that $100M goal, Reeves’ next movie is almost guaranteed to cross that mark, likely over just a couple of days. That’s because he has a voice role in Disney/Pixar’s highly-anticipated “Toy Story 4”. His character’s name is Duke Caboom. And that’s all I want to know going in. Still have to wait more than a month, though, as “TS4” hits theaters on June 21st.
And there are also rumors that Keanu Reeves is appearing in the “Fast & Furious” spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw”, out August 2nd. It’s unclear what his involvement is in the Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba action film. But chances are his scene(s) will be the only one(s) not shown in a trailer before this movie opens.
A message to studios: STOP making multiple trailers that give away SO MUCH. Audiences DON’T want to see the whole movie… before they actually see the whole movie.
