Big News! “Monsters” will be returning to a theater near you!
And I’m not talking about this year’s “Monsters vs. Aliens”. Pete Docter, fresh off his $290M (and counting) hit “Up” will be heading back to Monstropolis for his next film. “Monsters Inc. 2” will open in either 2012 or 2013. No word yet on a plot or cast, but you’ve got to expect that John Goodman and Billy Crystal will be back as Sully and Mike.
“Monsters Inc. 2” will either tie or beat “Toy Story 3” for the longest time between a Pixar original release date and a sequel (either 11 or 12 years). In between those two another Pixar sequel will will appear: “Cars 2”, on June 24, 2011.
In other animated sequel news: the new title for the upcoming “Hoodwinked sequel is “Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs. Evil”. It comes out on January 15, 2010.
Finally, another Dr. Seuss film is in the works. Universal (not 20th Century Fox) is producing “The Lorax”. It will be a CG 3D tale and is scheduled to be released on March 2, 2012, which also happens to be the birthday of the late Dr. Seuss.
