It’s often surprising how and when studios decide to release films. The newest head-scratcher involves the new Muppets movie, “The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time.”
Disney’s decision to release the film on Christmas Day, 2011 is a bit of a shocker, for a couple of reasons. First, Christmas is on a Sunday next year. And, secondly, it’ll be going-up against Steven Spielberg’s animated “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” and the live-action family film “We Bought A Zoo” that holiday weekend, and both of them will get a 2-day head start, opening on Friday the 23rd.
“The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time” is written by and will star Jason Segel. It’ll be the first big screen Muppets movie since “Muppets From Space” in 1999. But fans of Kermit, Fozzie and the gang won’t have to wait to next Christmas to see them in a new adventure. A Muppets Halloween TV special is schedule for this October on ABC.
