The new Regal Cinema I’ve been telling you about near where I live has finally announced that it will be opening on May 16, just in time for me to go and see “The Chronicles of Nardia: Prince Caspian.” But, the theater is also going to have 3-preview days prior to the official first night, when movie tickets, popcorn and soda are going to be only $2! No word yet what films they’ll be showing for the previews but I’ll be there no matter what they are to get an early look at the place.
Sorry to hear that New Line Cinema is no longer. Time Warner has decided to pull the plug on NewLine and have Warner Bros. simply take over production of all the movies that NewLine was working on. Over 600 New Line employees have lost their jobs, which is too bad. New Line’s last big movie – “The Golden Compass”, was a bomb, and that may have been the last straw for the 40-year old company. New Line’s 2008 summer movie is “Sex in the City.” Warner Bros. will take over production of the upcoming “Hobbit” films.
Finally, a sad farewell to Ollie Johnston, who was the last living member of Disney’s “Nine Old Men” team, who made such classics as “Sleeping Beauty” and “Bambi”. Johnston died this week at the age of 95. Roy E. Disney said, “Ollie was part of an amazing generation of artists.” Johnston also worked on “The Rescurers”, “Fantasia”, and the very first one – “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
