“The Ant Bully” is an animated movie adapted from the popular children’s story. Producers of the film should have simply bought everyone a copy of the book.
In the story a young boy named Lucas is tired of always being picked-on by a big bully in his neighborhood. So Lucas decides to pick-on the ants who live in a colony in his front yard.
However, the ants fight back by shrinking him down to their size. Lucas must then learn how to live like an ant. And he also helps the ants survive an attack from the biggest bully of them all – the exterminator.
The plot is rather plain and boring. The animation is pretty basic, especially compared to other 2006 films such as “Cars” and “Monster House.”
The celebrity voices include Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Nicholas Cage, but no one really stands out.
My favorite character is a beetle that Lucas meets when they both get eaten alive by a frog. I laughed a few times during their scenes together but I didn’t laugh too many other times.
“The Ant Bully” is rated PG, with only a few scenes that may be slightly scary for very young kids.
On The Official Kid Critic Report Card, “The Ant Bully” only gets a D+. If anyone tries to ‘bully’ you into watching it, call your ‘aunt’ instead.
