Week One of the newest edition of the TV movie review show, “At The Movies”, now starring Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz, was not very good. The two Ben’s did not seem comfortable with each other or the set, which looked very cheap. Plus the lighting was bad and there was too much editing in the show during the discussions by the critics, especially during a segment involving three other critics from around the country.
But, Week Two’s show, which I just saw, was much better. The set has been spruced-up and the choppy editing was gone. There’s still a lot of work to do but at least they seem to have picked-up a little stream.
My overall grade for the show: C.
The new “At The Movies” will never be as good as the “Siskel and Ebert” and “Ebert and Roeper” editions but I’ll keep watching.
