Roger Ebert’s long-awaiting memoir – “Life Itself” is finally out. After years of writing reviews, essays, books and tweets about movies, the world’s most famous and popular film critic finally writes about himself. In “Life Itself” Ebert covers it all – his childhood, his start as a movie critic, his relationship (on and off the set) with partner Gene Siskel and life during and since his battle with thyroid cancer.
Needless to say Roger has been a idol and hero of mine since I became a movie critic several years ago. And getting to spend time with him in his home in Chicago this summer and appearing on the new version of “Ebert Presents: At the Movies” is truly one of the highlights of my career and my life.
I can’t wait to read the book and share my thoughts on it with Roger. He and his wife Chaz were interviewed on “Today” on Wednesday.
Will I review the book? Of course not. This is one time when my opinion is irrelevant. I’ll simply enjoy it. And so should you.
