The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are Sunday night. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Andy Samberg will host the star-studded show, which is airing on FOX. This year’s TV series and individual performance nominees include veterans, newcomers and a lot of sentimentality. Here are my predictions for who will take home the gold statuettes (last year I only got two right from these 12 categories. Expecting a better results with these picks):
Actor in a Comedy: Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”) – Golden Globes repeat.
Actress in a Comedy: Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer”) – A fitting reward in a breakout year.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy: Tony Hale (“Veep”) – Since hardly anyone saw “American Ultra”, that shouldn’t affect his chances.
Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Allison Janney (“Mom”) – Yes, she’ll win…again.
Actor in a Drama: Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) – As a parting gift, he’s finally going to take it home after eight nominations in this category.
Actress in a Drama: Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) – One of the hottest shows and characters on TV right now.
Supporting Actor in a Drama: Jonathan Banks (“Better Call Saul”) – It’s “breaking” through with Academy voters.
Supporting Actress in a Drama: Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”) – Netflix gets something.
Variety Talk Series: “Late Show with David Letterman” – It would be a “stupid human trick” if Dave doesn’t get it, though Colbert or Stewart, who also left their respective shows, wouldn’t be a shock. Any other winner would be a major upset.
Reality-Competition Program: “The Amazing Race” – What’s new?
Comedy Series: “Transparent” – The “Modern Family” streak will end and “Parks and Rec” will not receive top honor for its swan song.
Drama Series: “Mad Men” – Arguably the biggest lock of the night.
