I’m not happy that I only got four of my eight Oscar predictions right. I promise I’ll do better next year. As for the show here are some thoughts:
– Regis did a great job on the red carpet. Who knew that he actually started the whole red carpet interview thing back in 1979?
– How about all four of the stars of “Get Smart” (Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson) being presenters! Don’t expect any of them to be back on stage next year accepting an Oscar for that film.
– Of course I’m glad that “Ratatouille” won for Best Animated Feature but not happy that that’s the only award the movie got. Pixar has now won three Best Animateds (“Finding Nemo and “The Incredibles” being the other two). And “Cars” should have won last year. “Wall-E” is a shoo-in for a nomination next year.
– It was cool that they had Barry B. Benson as a presenter for Best Animated Short. I bet Jerry Seinfeld is still mad that “Bee Movie” didn’t get a nomination.
– The biggest shocker in the acting awards has to be Tilda Swinton winning Best Supporting Actress. But George Clooney predicted it. He said in an interview last week that the only nominee for “Michael Clayton” who would win was Swinton. And he was right!
– And I told you a few weeks ago that I was worried that the three songs from “Enchanted” might split the vote and none of them would win. The same thing happened last year to three “Dreamgirls” songs. All three of the “Enchanted” songs were better than that song from “Open” that won. As Regis put it a few times during the pre-show – “What is wrong with you people?”
