It looks like the most successful movie of all-time will be joining forces with the most successful entertainment group of all-time. Disney has announced that it’s struck a deal with Fox to bring the world of “Avatar” to its theme parks. Construction is expected to begin in 2013 for the first attraction at Disney World in Florida.
This is a bit puzzling, since Disney hardly ever allows anything but it’s own products into it’s parks, to become rides, exhibits or attractions. Universal Studios is normally the one who grabs-up the rights to everything non-Disney, including Fox products such as The Simpsons. Could this be a clue that Disney may become involved in the production/distribution of the next two “Avatar” films that are in the works?
Reportedly, James Cameron will be directly involved with the creation of the theme park attractions. He’s calling this “an incredible partnership.” Let’s hope that Disney doesn’t allow him to turn the Tree of Life at the enterance of Animal Kingdom into the Na’vi Tree of Souls from the movie.
By the way, even though “Avatar-Land” won’t be open for several years it’s already way too long and overrated.
