I was worried that there wouldn’t be enough animated movies released this year to have a full five nominees in the Academy Award Best Animated Feature category this year. And now it’s official.
The Academy has released the list of qualifying films and only 15
movies have been submitted and deemed eligible. That means that there will only be three nominees. And that’s too bad. Last year, for only the second time in the history, five films were nominated out of a field of 20.
Certainly “Toy Story 3” is a lock for a nomination. My other two picks, right now, are “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Despicable Me”, but that could change. Here’s the complete list:
Alpha and Omega”?
“Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore”?
“Despicable Me”?
“The Dreams of Jinsha”?
“How to Train Your Dragon”?
“Idiots and Angels”?
“The Illusionist”?
“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”
“Megamind”
“My Dog Tulip”?
“Shrek Forever After”
“Summer Wars”?
“Tangled”
“Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue”?
“Toy Story 3″
“Toy Story 3” should also get a Best Picture nomation and it has a great chance for making history and winning that Oscar as well.
