Every first weekend in November for the last six years an animated movie has been released, with “Megamind” continuing the tradition in 2010. Here’s a look back at those films. One interesting note: Even though they all helped kick-off the holiday movie season, only the first one won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

November 3, 2006 – “Flushed Away” – Paramount/DreamWorks/Aardman – $18.8M – #3
November 2, 2007 – “Bee Movie” – Paramount/DreamWorks – $38M – #2
November 7, 2008 – “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” – Paramount/DreamWorks – $63.1M – #1
November 6, 2009 – “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” (some people would call it “animated”, but if I didn’t include it, this blog’s theme would not be accurate) – $30.1M – #1
November 5, 2010 – “Megamind” – Paramount/DreamWorks –
Next year, (November 4, 2011) DreamWorks will continue this tradition with “Puss in Boots”. And in 2012, (November 2nd) Disney/Pixar will make a return to a first weekend in November opening with “Monsters, Inc. 2”
