Nickelodeon has greenlit a spinoff series, based on their “Last Airbender” TV series. WHY? They’ve already got “Kung Fu Panda: The Series” and the “Jimmy Neutron” spin-off “Planet Sheen” premiering later this year, and a “Monsters Vs. Aliens” TV series in the works. Plus, more episodes of some of my favorites like “SpongeBob” and “Back at the Barnyard”.
This series is titled “The Legend of Korra”. According to the Associated Press, the show will premiere next year, and will focus on a new Avatar (this time a girl) named Korra. I think that Nick has made a couple of big mistakes.
#1 – The movie version is bombing at the box office, and critics destroyed the film (including myself by giving it a D). And here’s proof: Rotten Tomatoes has it at only an 8% approval rating; one of the worst of the year, and probably one of the worst of the last decade.
#2 – I guess the whole premise of the series and film having “The Last Airbender” in the titles, is really false now. You know what that means. The whole storyline of Aang being the last of his kind and he being “The Chosen One” goes right down the drain. Congrats Nickelodeon, you just messed yourselves up…big time! (Get it, like that show called “Big Time Rush”. They are completely Jonas Brothers rip-offs.)
