Getting up at 6am Monday morning was tough, until I quickly remembered that I was going to be on The Early Show in a few hours. The driver who took my parents and me to CBS was very funny. He told us he had driven many big celebrities, including George Clooney, who he said was a great guy.
The first thing I noticed when we got to the studio was that there was an outside set, right on the street, and a lot of members of the crew very busy doing their jobs. There was a lot of great food in the Green Room, but I had already eaten breakfast so I didn’t try anything. That’s two Green Room’s I’ve been in in the last month – no one eat any of the food in either one.
After I got mike’d I was taken outside, and led to the “beach set” where the segment would take place. Harry Smith joined me and we got a talk movies for awhile before he began the interview, which went very well. Harry was very animated with his expressions, and the meter they used to show my grades on the screen was very cool.
After the segment was over I got to meet the daughter of the late, great movie critic Gene Siskel. She works as an assistant to Early Show weatherman Dave Price. It was so great to talk to her. She told me she loved getting to see all those movies with her dad for free.
I got to interview Harry Smith inside the studio. His favorite guest to interview is Meryl Streep. Hopefully I’ll get the chance someday.
All-in-all a pretty great day. Hopefully they’ll have me back sometime.
