It looks like we may be seeing the next Spider-Man movie before we ever get to see Spider-Man on Broadway.
The official opening of “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark” has been delayed again, this time for 3 weeks, because of continued problems with the show. The plan now is for the $60-million production – the most expensive Broadway musical of all-time – to begin previews on Nov. 28 and open on Jan. 11, meaning it will miss-out on the holiday season crowds in NYC.
No one is saying for sure why another delay, but it could be for several reasons, including the fact that the numerous stunts and special effects are extremely complicated. In fact two stunt actors were injured recently practicing some flying scenes.
I’ve been walking by the Hilton Theater for several years now seeing posters for the show (“Coming Soon”). It was supposed to open last February. There are no big name actors in the cast, but Bono (U2) is handling the music.
There’s a chance “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark” may never open or it could turn out to be spectacular. I guess that’s the excitement of Broadway.
