Even though “Monster House” is an animated movie…it’s NOT kid stuff.
In the story, three 5th-graders- DJ, Chowder and Jenny try to defeat a house that is stealing toys from all the children in the neighborhood who come on it’s lawn. And at times it steals people and dogs, too!
The owner of the house is a mean old man named Mr. Nebbercracker, who’s voiced by Steve Buscemi. His house is directly across the street from DJ’s house. And since his parents are gone for a few days and he can’t get any help from his baby-sitter or the police DJ and his two friends do battle with the house, trying to beat it before Halloween, to save the rest of the neighborhood kids from being captured by the house when they go Trick or Treating.
“Monster House” has plenty of funny scenes, most of them involving Chowder. But it’s also quite scary at times. In fact I say it’s a little too scary for kids 7 and younger.
Other celebrity voices include Mitchell Musso (from Hannah Montana), Kevin James and Nick Cannon. Everybody does a nice job. The animation reminds me a little of “The Polar Express”. Very realistic.
On The Official Kid Critic Report Card, “Monster House” gets a spooky B. It’s definitely worth seeing, especially around Halloween. Just don’t watch it alone! OOOOOO!
