“Flipped” was scheduled to be released nationwide on August 27. However, at the last minute, Warner Brothers decided to only put it out in a handful of theaters in a few major cities. “The Winning Season” came out a few weeks ago, but only in three theaters in the entire country, and also on Pay Per View and Video on Demand.
Both of these movies have big name stars, one (“Flipped”) has a big name director, and both had budgets much larger than the films will ever make at the box office. Because of their limited releases neither film is close to taking in even $1M.
I don’t understand why studios make films like this, pretty good films (see my reviews below) and then decide not to let movie fans see them in theaters. Both “Flipped” and “The Winning Season” would have done o.k. at the box office had they gotten the wide releases they deserved. Considering all the time, effort and money that goes into making a movie, it doesn’t make much sense not to give people a chance to see it.
