It’s been one of the most unpredictable awards seasons of the past 15 years. So, who’s going to take home Oscars this Sunday night, during the live televised ceremony hosted by Conan O’Brien? Here are my official predictions:
Best Picture — “Anora”
Best Director — Sean Baker, “Anora”
Best Actor — Timothee Chalamet, “A Complete Unknown”
Best Actress — Demi Moore, “The Substance”
Best Supporting Actor — Kieran Culkin, “A Real Pain”
Best Supporting Actress — Zoe Saldana, “Emilia Perez”
Best Original Screenplay — “Anora”
Best Adapted Screenplay — “Conclave”
Best Animated Feature — “The Wild Robot”
Best Documentary Feature — “No Other Land”
Best International Feature — “Emilia Perez”
Best Cinematography — “The Brutalist”
Best Costume Design — “Wicked”
Best Film Editing — “Conclave”
Best Makeup and Hairstyling — “The Substance”
Best Production Design — “Wicked”
Best Sound — “Dune: Part Two”
Best Animated Short — “Wander to Wonder”
Best Documentary Short — “The Only Girl in the Orchestra”
Best Live-Action Short — “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent”
Best Visual Effects — “Dune: Part Two”
Best Original Score — “The Brutalist”
Best Original Song — “The Journey” from “The Six Triple Eight”
Timothee Chalamet will beat competitor Adrien Brody’s record (from “The Pianist”), becoming the youngest Best Actor winner in Oscars history. The votes for the “Emilia Perez” songs will split, and after 16 nominations, Diane Warren will finally win a competitive Academy Award. And even though I’m not predicting this exact outcome, there’s still a legitimate possibility that “Anora” will repeat what happened at the Critics Choice Awards, by winning Best Picture and nothing else.
