Sunday Night at 7pmET is The 2016 LCJ MOVIE AWARDS! Since it’s the fifth year of my awards, I’ve revealed the nominees in five of the 30 categories in advance:
Several actors are nominated for the third time, such as Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), who’s facing-off with fellow three-time nominee Meryl Streep (“Ricki and the Flash”) and two-time LCJ Award Winner Jennifer Lawrence (“Joy”) for Best Actress. For Tom Hanks 2016 also marks a three-peat, this time for his Best Actor work in “Bridge of Spies”.
Best Supporting Actor nominee Mark Ruffalo (“Spotlight”) was previously up for Best Cameo (“Iron Man 3”) and amongst the ensembles of both “Foxcatcher” and “Marvel’s The Avengers”. Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) is a two-time Best Actor nominee. He was snubbed by The Academy for 2011’s “J. Edgar”, but got an LCJ Movie Award nomination for that performance. Saorise Ronan returns to the Best Actress category – she was previously nominated for 2011’s underrated “Hanna”. And both Eddie Redmayne (Lead Actor – “The Danish Girl”) and Marion Cotillard (Supporting Actress – “Macbeth”) are back-to-back nominees.
But, since there are six nominees in each of the four acting categories, there are plenty of first-timers as well: Ian McKellen (“Mr. Holmes”), Will Smith (“Concussion”), Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”), Jason Segel (“The End of the Tour”), Michael Shannon (“99 Homes”), Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”), Rooney Mara (“Carol”), Maggie Smith (“The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”), Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”), Kate Winslet (“Steve Jobs”), “Room”‘s Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, and three of the stars of “Youth” – Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and Rachel Weisz.
As for this year’s Best Original Song Nominees, none of the five is up for the Oscar. And they are:
“Cold One” – Ricki and the Flash
“Feel the Light” – Home
“Feels Like Summer” – Shaun the Sheep Movie
“See You Again” – Furious 7
“Who Can You Trust” – Spy
