One former Disney Channel star out…another former Disney Channel star in!
Selena Gomez’s selection to take-over for Miley Cyrus as the voice of Dracula’s daughter in this year’s “Hotel Transylvania” is an interesting one. Sony Pictures Animation had to act fast, as the film was already well into production. Online rumors say that Cyrus was released because she was struggling with the role, needing to re-do her lines over and over. This is somewhat surprising, considering that Miley had voiced a main character (Penny) in 2008’s “Bolt” (and did a nice job).
Gomez has experience in voice-over work, including a small role in 2008’s “Horton Hears a Who!”
Because of the change, the film has been pushed back a week to September 28th, only one week before another Halloween-themed animated film (Disney’s “Frankenweenie”) opens. Earlier this year Sony Pictures Animation also delayed the release date of “The Pirates! Band of Misfits”. That film will to April 27th.
“Hotel Transylvania” stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Steve Buscemi.
