Well, the Holiday Season is just around the corner. That means cheer, gifts and lots a money taken in at the box office for movies. Here are some of the family films to check out over the next 6-weeks:
Opening Nov. 21 is Disney’s “Bolt.” John Travolta stars as the voice of the title character, who is a dog who stars in his own action TV show. But one day Bolt leaves the set and ends-up lost in New York City. He has to recruit some friends to find his owner and get back home. Miley Cyrus and Sussie Essman also provide voices.
This looks like it’s going to be a great comedy, with great animation and likeable characters. “Bolt” is rated PG.
“Delgo” is a fantasy/adventure about creatures who looks a little freaky. “Delgo” is the name of the main character, a teenage boy who falls in love with a princess. But their relationship causes a whole lot of trouble, including a war that threatens to destroy their world. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt voice the leads.
This is the first animated film from Fathom Studios and it’s also rated PG. To me it’s looks just so-so. “Delgo” opens Dec. 12.
Kate DiCamillo’s Newbury Award winning book, “The Tale of Despereaux” comes to the big screen on Dec. 19. Matthew Broderick voices Despereaux, a little mouse who is different from all the other mice living in the castle: He’s brave! Despereaux meets Princess Pea and later is called upon to save her from the rats.
I read the book, and from the trailers the movie looks just as good – with great dialogue and animation, and a lot of heart. “The Tale of Despereaux” hits theaters Dec. 19.
Finally, on Christmas Day, after you’ve opened all your presents and are stuffed with food, you may want to head out to see “Bedtime Stories.” It’s a live-action comedy starring Adam Sandler, who plays a guy who has to take care of his niece and nephew for a week. One night he tells them bedtime stories and the next day the stories come to life.
For me, this one could either hit or miss. Let’s hope it’s a last-minute holiday gift from Disney.
