“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2026. 20th Century Studios will release the sequel to iconic 2006 fashion rom-com on May 1st. The marketing campaign has been pretty strong so far, with a global tour for Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, and a magazine cover reveal of Emily Blunt on a special edition of “Runway”, which will hit newsstands on April 13th. The great Stanley Tucci is also returning, joined by Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley and even (as Craig Melvin accidentally revealed live on “The Today Show”) Jenna Bush Hager.
For Hathaway and Blunt, “The Devil Wears Prada” is one of the defining films of their careers. It’s one of the movies that gets quoted to them the most… and the sequel idea that reporters have been asking them for much of the past 20 years. However, “TDWP2” is not the only major release of ’26 for these Golden Globe-winning actresses. Blunt returns on the big screen just six weeks later in Steven Spielberg’s mysterious sci-fi thriller “Disclosure Day”, alongside Josh O’Connor and her “Mary Poppins Returns” co-star Colin Firth.
Hathaway is actually in a big release prior to “Prada 2”. It’s A24’s dramatic music horror/thriller “Mother Mary”, from “A Ghost Story” director David Lowery, which opens April 17th. This July she’s Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s star-studded epic “The Odyssey” (an “Interstellar” re-team, also with star Matt Damon) and joins Ewan McGregor in sci-fi flick “The End of Oak Street” (coming in August). And there’s also “Verity”, with Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, which Amazon-MGM currently has scheduled for October, in theaters. She’s back with Amazon-MGM for Ron Howard’s “Alone at Dawn”, opposite Adam Driver. No date on that yet.
With a current opening weekend projection of $66 million, according to Variety (though I think it can go much higher), “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is sure to be one of the big hits of the first half of 2026, if not the entire yet, as long as it’s good. Lots of people will go right away, but positive word of mouth will be key. The original “Prada” greatly benefited from great reviews and audience reactions. Here’s hoping the sequel captures the same magic.
