A few days ago, it was announced that ABC was cancelling one of its Wednesday night comedies, “Hank” starring one of my favorite celebrities, Kelsey Grammer. The show was actually filming its tenth episode when they heard the news. The show aired just five episodes for the network, and now ABC says they’re not even going to show the other five that are in the can.
Kelsey’s last (sadly) failed sitcom, “Back to You”, aired on FOX in the ’07-’08 season, with a total of 14 episodes. Three were unaired because of the Writer’s Strike that made the show go off the air from mid-November to late February. Originally, the show was going to have a full 24 episode season. FOX’s reason to cancel the series was mainly because of the budget and sinking ratings.
ABC’s reason to cancel “Hank” was simply because the ratings weren’t that great, averaging 6.5 million viewers per week, which was the worst of the four comedies that night (but honestly, not by much).
Honestly, “Hank” was not as good as “Back to You”, but why wouldn’t they just give the show at least 13 shows or a full season, before cancelling it, and not pound it like this. I feel really bad for Grammer, all he’s got left right now is to occasionally voice Sideshow Bob on “The Simpsons”.
Listen to me Chairmen and Presidents of FOX and ABC: YOU MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE CANCELLING “BACK TO YOU” AND DIDN’T GIVE “HANK’ AND FAIR CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next time, it’s back to movie talk, I promise. I just had to check this off my chest.
