I wasn’t sure it was ever going to happen. But it’s official: “Top Cat: The Movie” will be coming to theaters in America on August 2nd. How many theaters and in what cities is still unknown. All we know now is that it will be a limited release.
This feature-length version of the early 1960’s Hanna-Barbera cartoon was produced by Anima Studios (Mexico) and
Illusion Studios (Argentina). It was released in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries back in 2011. It turns out that the TV series, which ran on ABC for 30 episodes from 1961-’62, was extremely popular in Mexico, where it ran for years and is still huge. Here in the U.S. it has been part of the cartoon line-up on Cartoon Network’s spin-off channel Boomerang.
Take a look at the trailer and some clips – in English for the first time – from our friends at Comingsoon.net
“Top Cat: The Movie” is the first ever flash animated film to be converted and released in RealD 3D. The original cartoon is great and, I’ll admit, the clips look pretty bad. But it becomes the 6th animated film of the summer of 2013 – and a must-see for me.
