I recently saw “The New Mutants” at a Drive-In. Why? Well, first of all, Drive-Ins are cool. And second, it was one of the only places in the state of NY where it was playing on opening night. Drive-Ins have made a media resurgence this year, but they haven’t really gone away, even during my 22-year lifetime.
So many of you have been seeing classic and/or new movies for the first time at Drive-Ins this year. Here’s some of my list (all seen during their first runs):
“Mulan” (1998) The original animated version. In my mother’s womb.
“Tarzan” (1999) Another Disney animated hit. Less than a year old.
“Chicken Run” (2000) The only stop-motion feature to earn more than $100 million in the U.S.
“Shrek” (2001) The first Best Animated Feature Oscar winner.
“Lilo & Stitch” (2002) Back to Disney.
“Garfield” (2004) Bill Murray. Great casting.
“Herbie: Fully Loaded” (2005) In between Michael Keaton’s prime and his comeback.
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008) I like it!
“The Dark Knight” (2008) Like many of you when it comes to “TENET”, I wanted to experience this Christopher Nolan film on the biggest screen possible.
“The Expendables” (2010) Who knew it was gonna start a trilogy?
“The Expendables 2” (2012) I ended-up seeing the third one (released in 2014) at an indoor theater.
Films I’ve seen in the car on second viewing include “Finding Nemo”, “Ratatouille”, “The Simpsons Movie”, “Space Chimps”, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”, “The A-Team”, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins”, “ParaNorman”, “Turbo”, “Cars”, “Cars 2”, “Despicable Me” and “Despicable Me 2”.
