O.K. I enjoyed the Justin Bieber Movie – “JB: Never Say Never” more than I thought I would. And sitting in a theater surrounded by 200+ screaming girls was an experience. And I do appreciate that J. Bieber is very talented and he deserves all the attention and success that he’s enjoying.
But do I think that it’s right that a “Directors Cut” of “Never Say Never” is in the works, and the movie could be released in theaters as soon as Mar. 4? No, it’s ridiculous.
Word is that director John M. Chu is planning to put-out “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 2.0” in early March. The “sequel” will have more songs, video from the premiere of the movie just 3-weeks earlier and clips from this past weekend’s Grammy Awards. Of course, all this is simply a way to get all those young girls who went to the movie the first weekend to go again, to see the extra footage. It’s a money grab, plain and simple. And the “new” movie will be exclusively shown in 3D, which means parents will have to spend even more money on tickets for their kids.
I really liked “Team Bieber” after seeing the movie. The way the give-out tickets to fans on the day of shows and bring a girl on stage during each concert is very cool and those are some of the best scenes in the film. But if they go through with releasing this extended version in theaters in a few weeks, just to take advantage of the diehards, my opinion of these people will go way down. I’ll develop a case of “Bieber Fever”, but it’ll be because I’ll be angry with Chu, the production companies and everyone involved in this decision.
