We haven’t seen much of Kelsey Grammer since the premature 2012 cancellation of his Starz political drama, “Boss” (for which he won a Golden Globe). But the 5-time Emmy winner is staging a Summer 2014 comeback on the silver screen. With 5 big movies over a 4 month period, the “Frasier” star clearly hasn’t “left the building”.
First, Grammer voices the Tin Man in “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return”, which is out May 9. The animated film comes from upstart studio Clarius Entertainment, and looks it, but does boast an A-list cast, a $70 million budget and a prime release date. Rumor has it Grammer also makes a cameo appearance in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” (May 23), reprising his Beast character from 2006’s “The Last Stand”.
Then come a trio of sequels. I like his character’s name – Lee Fox – in “Think Like a Man Too” (June 20). The following week Grammer plays a villain in “Transformers: Age of Extinction”, alongside Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci. And then he’s Bonaparte in August’s “The Expendables 3”, joining forces with Hollywood heavyweights Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I’ve always enjoyed Kelsey on both the big and small screens, and on stage. I had the chance to see him on Broadway in “La Cage aux Folles” a few years ago and he was outstanding. Really looking forward to these new Grammer lessons in theaters this Summer.
