“La La Land” leads the 2017 British Academy Film Awards Nominations with 11, followed closely by “Arrival” and “Nocturnal Animals” (which both star Amy Adams) with 9 each.
British drama “I, Daniel Blake” is among the Best Film nominees. In the Lead Actor category, Jake Gyllenhaal (“Nocturnal”) took a slot away from Denzel Washington (“Fences”), one of the biggest snubs. His co-star, Viola Davis, is a Supporting Actress nominee.
Brits Emily Blunt (“The Girl on the Train”) and Hugh Grant (“Florence Foster Jenkins”) received nominations in Lead Actress and Supporting Actor, respectively. Meryl Streep (“Florence”) got her first BAFTA nomination since her 2012 win for playing British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady”.
Shocking Golden Globe “Nocturnal Animals” Supporting Actor winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson is among the nominees in the BAFTA category.Barry Jenkins is not a Best Director nominee for “Moonlight”, though the drama is a Best Film nominee. “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is up for 5 awards, including Best British Film.
Normally, the BAFTAs only have three Animated Feature nominees, but there are four this year: three come from Disney – “Moana”, “Finding Dory” and “Zootopia” (or as it was called in England, “Zootropolis”) and Laika’s “Kubo and the Two Strings”.
