I remember watching the first six episodes of “Parks and Recreation” in 2009 not knowing two things: 1) If the show was going to last beyond these six episodes. And 2) That Chris Pratt would soon become an action movie superstar.
Pratt’s breakthrough 2014 began as the voice of Emmett in blockbuster “The LEGO Movie”. That summer, he headlined Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”. And the following June, he helped make “Jurassic World” one of the highest-grossing movies of all-time. Pratt’s 2016 wasn’t quite as spectacular in terms of the quality of the films he was in. But “The Magnificent Seven” and “Passengers” (both for Sony) were minor hits.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” kicked off the Summer 2017 Movie Season, and Pratt’s appearances in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” followed, with “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” in between. Pratt returned to the voice acting booth for Pixar’s 2020 Oscar nominee “Onward” as Barley.
His latest live-action action movie is “The Tomorrow War”, available Friday July 2nd on Prime Video. Just like they did for “Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse”, Paramount sent this to Amazon. Will “Tomorrow” be turned into a franchise? Pratt seems to be the king of them these days. He’s in new “Thor” and “Jurassic World” installments coming next summer, and a third “Guardians” is on tap for Summer 2023… which is still many, many tomorrows from now.
