Oscar Week is officially here, and to celebrate I went to see the Oscar Nominated Animated Short Films. Here are my thoughts:
“Day and Night” – This year’s Pixar entry. They haven’t won a short award since 2002 (“For The Birds”). Have seen it 3 times and still don’t love it. Reportedly the odds-on favorite.
“The Gruffalo” – Most star power of all the entries (Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, John Hurt) and the longest. Dr. Seuss-like dialogue with Maurice Sendack images. A predictable story.
“Let’s Pollute” – Very clever writing and animation. Great narration. Somewhat similiar to last year’s winner, “Logorama”. One of my favorites.
“The Lost Thing” – Australian entry. Simple but very enjoyable story. Characters you really get to like. Most imaginative of the group.
“Madagascar – A Journey Diary” – Nice, water-color animation. Story doesn’t really grab you.
Who I like to see win: “Let’s Pollute”
Who will win: “The Gruffalo“
