I saw three movies this past weekend – “The Social Network” (see review below), “Secretariat” (can’t post the review until later this week) and “Beauty and the Beast”. I attended one of the sing-a-long events that Fathom presented around the country.
While I enjoy singing, that isn’t why I was so anxious to see the Disney’s 1991 animated classic on Saturday. I’ve seen the movie over a dozen times (it is my all-time favorite film), but this was the FIRST TIME I got to see it on the big screen. And this new, restored digital version is spectacular.
The crowd at the showing I attended wasn’t big, but there were enough kids and enthusiastic adults to make the singing fun, but just to see this story, and these characters, larger than life for the first time was the best part for me. And Jordan Sparks did a nice job warming-up the audience with a 15-minute introduction.
The new “Beauty and Beast” – Diamond Collection Blu-ray/DVD comes out on Tuesday, and it should be fantastic. And were still supposed to see the movie in 3D someday, if Disney ever gets it’s act together (you may remember it was scheduled to come out last February), but I’ll always remember the first time I got to watch Belle, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts and the gang in a theater.
