The nominations for the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards are out and I’ve spotted a new trend this year: the nominees are much more kid/family oriented.
For example: In the Favorite Movie category there’s only one semi- “action” film (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow – Pt.1”), and the rest much more family-friendly: “Alice in Wonderland”, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, “The Karate Kid”. Last year this category was filled with “Twilight”, “Transformers” and “X-Men” (though “Alvin and the Chipmunks” won).
In fact, not only did “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” not get a Favorite Movie nomination, it didn’t get a Favorite Book nomination either.
Also, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” gets a Favorite Reality Show nom this year (I didn’t even realize it was still on ther air), while the “Dancing” shows got shut-out. “The Simpsons” have been replaced by “Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated” in the Favorite Cartoon category. And two of the Favorite Butt Kickers come from animated movies (Steve Carell and Will Ferrell). That’s a huge suprise considering all the big action films that came out in 2010. Thankfully they still have an Animated Feature category, with “Despicable Me”, “Shrek Forever After”, “Toy Story 3” and “How to Train Your Dragon”.
Could it be that Nickelodean is making an extra effort to make the Kids’ Choice Awards more about KIDS and not about early teen and teenagers who have their own show – the Teen Choice Awards? It sure looks that way to me. And if that is the case I agree with it 100%.
The 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards hosted by Jack Black air Saturday April 2nd on Nick.
