In my previous blog I mention that the ’08 Annie Award winners had been announced. Among those honored – Nick Park, the man behind the Wallace and Gromit films. Park’s latest W & G movie – “A Matter of Loaf and Death” won the Annie for Best Animated Short Subject.
The 29-minute movie, which hasn’t been shown in the U.S. yet, debuted on TV in the UK in December, and was the highest-rated program of the year and the highest-rated non-sporting event in the UK since 2004.
In the story, there’s a “cereal” killer on the loose who’s knocking-off bakers one by one. It just so happens that Wallace and Gromit are now running a bakery, and Wallace falls in love with a fellow baker, who may have more than making bread on her mind.
As usual there are great chase scenes, wonderful dialogue and many inside jokes. And. for once, Wallace isn’t the only one with a love-interest.
“A Matter of Loaf and Death” can be found on the internet. That’s where I saw it. I’m not going to give out the site (because it probably isn’t supposed to be there), but a little Googling should get you there.
Don’t look for “A Matter of Loaf and Death” to be honored at the Academy Awards, at least not this year. Production wasn’t completed by the October 1 deadline so it’s won’t be elidgible for an Oscar nomination until 2010.
Too bad, because W&G are the best animated comedy team in the business and Park deserves all the awards he can get.
