On Sunday February 22nd Hugh Jackman will host the 81st Academy Awards (I was hoping the rumors about Ricky Gervais being selected as host were true – oh well).
As you know, the nominations were announced this past Thursday. Here are some surprises:
– “Wall-E” with 5 nominations. Why?
– “The Dark Knight” gets 8 nominations, but not one for Best Picture.
– “Revolutionary Road” receives 3 nominations, but Kate and Leo both get left out.
– “…Benjamin Button” nearly breaks “Titantic”‘s record for most nominations, with 13 (“Titantic” got 14).
– Clint Eastwood gets the biggest snub. No nomination for acting in or directing “Gran Torino.”
– Only 3 nominated “Best Original Song” candidates this year. What’s up with that? I was sure one of the songs from “Bolt” would have been picked just so ABC could get Miley Cyrus to sing live on the show.
– Why still on 3 nominees in the Best Animated Film category? Could we get that changed, please?
– and finally, this year’s Oddest Oscar Nominee of the Year Award goes to: “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army” (though it’s not as weird as last year, when “Norbit” was an Oscar Nominated film).
