While I review only Family Films for this website, I do see movies, occasionally, that don’t fit into that category. The other day I saw the Oscar-nominated “Frost/Nixon”, which stars Frank Langella, who is up for Academy Award for Best Actor and Michael Sheen, who should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
The film is about the controversial interviews between British TV talk show host David Frost and President Richard Nixon, who had just resigned from office. The movie is very interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat even if you remember what happened in real life back in 1977 when these interviews took place. Of course I wasn’t around back then for it was even more exciting for me.
Langella and Sheen have great chemistry, the rest of the acting is first-rate and the movie works as a history lesson as well. It’s rated R, but only for some brief, strong language. “Frost/Nixon” is still in theaters. I recommend it highly.
In movie news: “Fox/Walden Media have picked-up the 3rd “Narnia” movie (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”) after Disney dropped the franchise. I’m surprised they’re even doing a 3rd since the most recent “Narnia” didn’t do well at the box office in the U.S. (though it did better worldwide). “Dawn Treader” is expected to be a Christmas 2010 release.
And, The Annie Awards, which honor achievement in animated films, came out this week. The top honor, Best Film, went to….”Kung Fu Panda”!!! Yea!!! Finally an animated award that wasn’t won by “Wall-E”. This is a real shocker. Could it mean that “KFP” could upset “Wall-E” and take home the Oscar?
