I thought that “I Am Legend” would make about $35 million in it’s first weekend and that “Alvin and the Chipmunks” would make around $22 million. But no. Check-out these numbers:
I Am Legend – $76.5 M. (in 3,606 theaters)
Alvin… – $45.0 M. (in 3,475 theaters)
Crazy figures and great for those films. I was at a sold-out showing of “Alvin” so I guess I played a small role in it’s amazing success. As for “I Am Legend”, that’s the biggest December opening of all-time! Nice work by both studios.
