Yes, the Super Bowl was exciting (especially since I won our squares pool), but the best part for me were all the commericals for the upcoming blockbuster films and the “Monsters vs. Aliens” 3-D preview.
As for the “MVA” peek, I was hoping it would be a 3-minute chunk of the film and not clips, most of which I’d already seen. Still, the 3-D effects were pretty good for TV and the cardboard glasses and there were a few new scenes. After this I don’t want to see any more clips before the movie comes out, though the studio will probably release one final commercial.
The best of the commericals for upcoming films were:
1) “Land of the Lost” – A comedy/Sci-Fi/adventure with Wil Ferrell. The more I see the more I like it’s chances to be very funny.
2) “Up” – which added a new scene (the GPS device) to the end of the trailer/ad we’ve been seeing for some time, and it earned a big laugh.
3) “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” – first look at the sequel, and the Decepticons are back and bigger than ever.
Other movie ads included “G.I. Joe”, “Star Trek” and “Race to Witch Mountain” which was, more or less, the same preview we’ve been seeing in theaters for weeks. What’s up with that? If you’re going to spend $3M for a :30 spot, at least give us something new.
