Sci-fi sequel “Blade Runner 2049”, true story drama “The Post” and family film “Wonder” lead The 2018 LCJ Movie Awards nominations, with 9 each, including Best Picture. Musical “The Greatest Showman” and sports biopic “I, Tonya” follow with 7 nominations each.
For the first time in the 7-year history of The LCJ Movie Awards, there are 7 nominees in each of the four individual acting categories, as well as Best Director and The Roger Ebert Actor of the Year Award. All other categories vary between 5, 6 and 7 nominees, with the exception of Best Picture, which has 10.
“Call Me by Your Name” star Timothee Chalamet and “Get Out” actor Daniel Kaluuya are among the nominees of new category, Breakthrough Performance.
Woody Harrelson becomes the first person to receive two career nominations for The Roger Ebert Actor of the Year Award. He was previously nominated for his body of work in 2014.
Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep have each received their fourth career LCJ Awards nominations for their performances in “The Post”, and the film’s director, Steven Spielberg, has been nominated for the fourth time in the Best Director category.
Jessica Chastain has also received her fourth individual acting nomination for “Molly’s Game”.
Denzel Washington (“Roman J. Israel, Esq.”) is nominated in the Best Actor category for the second year in a row, joining Chastain and fellow Best Actress nominee Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”) as two-for-two acting nominees.
Jeremy Renner has received two individual nominations, one for Best Actor (“Wind River”), the other for Best Cameo (“The House”).
Patrick Stewart has also received two individual nominations, one for Best Supporting Actor (“Logan”), the other for Best Voice Performance (“The Emoji Movie”).
20th Century Fox leads all distribution studios with 28 nominations, followed by Warner Bros. with 26.
Film Critic and Sole Voter of The LCJ Movie Awards, Lights Camera Jackson, will return to host this year’s ceremony, which will air on Sunday February 25th at 7pmET. The show will be broadcast on the Lights Camera Jackson YouTube channel.
